Reading Fluency
Seven times each quarter, students are provided a story at the beginning of the week and informed that at the end of the week each student will read for one minute from that story. After their minute of reading, students will graph their total words read on the Student Reading Fluency Chart and the total for the classroom will be graphed on the Class Reading Fluency Chart and posted for the entire class to see. It is important that the story selected is appropriate for what is expected at the end of the school year. This way students see their progress as they reach their reading goals. On both the Student Reading Fluency and the Class Reading Fluency "All Time Bests" (meaning better than ever before) should be designated with a special sticker or star. Classroom All Time Bests should be followed by a 1 - 2 minute celebration by the whole classroom!
